The countdown to ACCA's December exams begins now!

Every week from now until the ACCA exams in December, Caron Betts will be guiding us through exam preparation from a tutor's point of view.

As the nights draw in, the “Christmas” word starts creeping into everyone’s thoughts.

For me there’s a date much earlier in December that I need to start preparing for: Exam day.

The week commencing 4th December is the ACCA exam week and over the next 11 weeks I will be building up to that. Having been a tutor for more than a decade, I pretty much know what to expect;

  • long days to make sure the students get the support they need. (Students do have a tendency to study at odd times of the day and night.)
  • anxious phone calls from students who think they can’t do it – but more often than not they can.
  • email exchanges answering the all-important “but why” questions. Those are my favourite type of questions.

I shall be teaching three papers leading up to December: F4 Corporate and Business Law, F5 Performance Management and F6 Taxation. It’s going to keep me quite busy but the fact that they are interesting topics, with very practical applications, means that I enjoy teaching them.  And if I am enjoying it, then hopefully my students will too.

But today – just this minute – I can enjoy the calm before the storm.  I’ve tidied my files, sent (hopefully) an inspiring message and I’ve prepared my first lectures. I am excited about the courses starting next week.
